I was born in Washington D.C. I was raised in College Park Maryland very near the University of Maryland. I hired on with the Bell System as a Lineman right after graduation of high school. After my apprenticeship and becoming a journeyman Lineman, I transferred to Billings Montana with Mountain Bell.
I spent 15 years with the Bell System and in 1986 took a buyout (because U.S.West was downsizing). My wife at that time and I built a restaurant in Big Sky as she wanted to have a gourmet burger / pizza place with a 50s theme. This was called Gump’s, and it was located in the Westfork business complex. I guided for fishing trips on the Bighorn, Yellowstone and Missouri rivers and worked for various outfitters for pack trips and hunting trips during the summer and fall. I cooked and skied all winter. We were not very good “Sole Proprietors” because after 5 years we went bankrupt and I got a divorce all in the same week. I sure had a good time for those five years though.
1991, I got a job working for Cochran Electric as a Lineman Supervisor, building line in Deadwood South Dakota to downtown Seattle. In 1993 I got a job with Project Telephone Cooperative (Nemont Cooperative subsiderary) in Worden Montana. We bought 16 irrigated acres and an old farmstead north of Hardin MT. I was a technician on the Crow reservation for 5 years and then made District Manager for another 5 years.
In 2003, Range Telephone Cooperative started up a de-regulated entity in Sheridan Wyoming (Advanced Communications Technology) which was also the Internet Service Provider (ISP) for all the Range family of companies. I applied for the Operation Manger job and spent the next 3 years working in Sheridan and living in Story Wyoming.
We moved to Ennis in 2007 in my current position as District Manager with 3 Rivers Communications. The properties that I am responsible include everything 3 Rivers has from Helena south to Idaho. This includes Twin Bridges, Sheridan, Melrose, Lima (including Monida and the Centennial Valley), Virginia City, Ennis, Harrison, Norris, Pony and Big Sky. We have some customers in Whitehall and Cardwell.
I am a board member of the Ennis Chamber of Commerce, I have been and still somewhat involved with the Ruby Valley Chamber, Virginia City Chamber, and Big Sky Chamber, avid fisherman, and just enjoy being in the great Montana outdoors. I enjoy 4 wheeling and exploring new places. My wife and I float the Yellowstone, Bighorn, Missouri and Madison Rivers quite often, weather permitting.
