JUNIOR ARCHAEOLOGY FAMILY DAY

The Museum of the Rockies is offering families the opportunity to learn more about archeology together. Join the Museum of the Rockies and Project Archaeology for a fun hands-on exploration of the science behind archaeology. Investigate weaponry advancements from projectile points of stone to projectile points of steel. Experiment with native plants to create cordage. Create some traditional beadwork, throw a spear, and hear some Native American singers. Discover how archaeologists prepare for a dig, how flintknappers make tools, and much more.
 
Junior Archaeology Family Day will be held Saturday, April 25, from 10 am until noon. It is free for Museum members or free with paid Museum admission.

ASTRONOMICAL IMAGING; THE POINT WHEN ART BREAKS THROUGH SCIENCE

The night-time sky has captured the hearts and imaginations of individuals since the beginning of mankind. Join Ryan Hannahoe, the Director of Client Support Services with the Fair Dinkum Skies Observatory and a student at Montana State University, as he discusses the art of basic digital astronomical photography. Within his lecture, Ryan will share some of his many works, along with processing an image 'on the fly' for the audience to see how processing techniques can be applied.

The dramatic downturn in the real estate market is likely to end sooner rather than later in the Northern Rockies, according to new research from Arthur C. Nelson, Presidential Professor and Director of the Metropolitan Research Center at the University of Utah - and the I-90 corridor in Montana and the Snake River Valley in Idaho are especially well-positioned for renewed growth.

Nelson’s research shows that surplus housing supply in Montana is likely to be absorbed by the end of this year, and by 2011 in Idaho. Further, the need to replace aging building inventory - especially in commercial real estate - will drive demand above and beyond what population growth trends alone would suggest...
