MovieMaker, dedicated to the art and business of making movies, is calling Bozeman, Montana “nature’s playground for moviemaking” and has added our beautiful home to the 2014 edition of the Best Places to Live and Work as a Moviemaker.

An excerpt from the article:

According to Mark Vargo, DP (White House Down), “Bozeman represents the ‘New West’—a community that is merging hi-tech and entrepreneurial companies with an indigenous agricultural culture.” With its world-class fly fishing, hiking, whitewater kayaking, and mountain climbing, Bozeman has the outdoors covered and has been featured in films like A River Runs Through It and The Horse Whisperer.

The real estate market for 2013 met or exceeded all expectations that we had a year ago while on the quest for a return to normal.  This summary compares 2013 to 2012 sales information using the Southwest Montana Multiple Listing Service (SWMLS) as the source.

Within the city of Bozeman, single-family home sales increased by 13%.  There were 489 single-family homes sold in 2013, compared to 431 in 2012.  There was a very minimal increase to 341 condo/ townhomes sold in 2013 which equaled 2% growth over the 334 sales in 2012.  This was mostly due to the lack of available attached housing for sale in this area.  The average sales prices for single-family homes also showed further recovery with a 6% increase to $310,099 in 2013 from $293,913 in 2012,…

Bozeman received another national nod, this time from Sunset Magazine. Not only did they list Bozeman amongst the “24 Best Places to Live and Work 2014”, but they named our beautiful town the “Best Place to Reboot Your Life.”

Excerpt from Sunset Magazine:

Set between the Gallatin and Bridger Ranges, Bozeman offers easy access to thousands of acres of Gallatin National Forest, hundreds of miles of blue-ribbon trout streams (the nearby Yellowstone and Madison Rivers are ranked among the best in the world), and three downhill ski areas, including nonprofit Bridger Bowl, just 18 miles north of town.

Between 2000 and 2012, Bozeman’s population grew more than 40 percent, and a good deal of that growth came from urban refugees seeking a smaller-city pace…

I was reading an article earlier this month on Realtor.org entitled “Nearly Half of States Within Reach of Peak Home Prices.”  It summarized that through October 2013, twenty-three states are now close to reaching the peak sales prices that were witnessed in 2006.  Furthermore, sixteen of those twenty-three states have actually come within 5 percent of the 2006 numbers.  Montana is included in that category. In regards to the levels of home appreciation causing this trend, the five states leading the way are Nevada, California, Georgia, Michigan, and Arizona.  In fact, only one state – New Mexico- experienced a decline (.5%) in price from the prior year.  Interestingly though, while Nevada and Arizona are appreciating at 26% and 14% respectively, they…
