How to Claim Your Rebate
To receive your tax rebate, you must file a claim with the state. If you're old school and have the time on your hands, you can mail in the paper form. The fastest and easiest way to tackle this, however, is to file the information right on Montana's TransAction Portal. Once your claim has been filed, rebates will be issued within 30 days. Paper claims may take up to 90 days to process, so it's a safe bet to try the online application. Keep in mind the deadline is fast approaching with a due date to file on October 1st.
A quick tip in the submission of your online form; a geocode is required for your residential property. If you've never heard of a geocode, you can easily find yours through the use of Montana Cadastral. Simply look up your name by county and find your current residential address. The geocode is listed within your primary information. If your geocode is only 15 digits, enter your county’s two-digit code, found on this list, as the first two numbers followed by the 15-digit code reported on your property tax bill or from Cadastral.
