Big Sky Discovery Academy Blends Slopes and Studies with New Ski Program
Posted on July 1, 2025Big Sky Discovery Academy is launching an innovative Ski Enrichment Program this fall for students aged six to eleven. The new offering provides a unique opportunity for young learners to pair serious ski training with their academic education.
As an optional add-on, enrolled students will train two afternoons a week. The program begins with a 10-week dry-land session at the Moving Mountains gym, where personal trainers will focus on building ski-specific strength, agility, and mobility. Once the snow falls, students will transition to the slopes of Big Sky Resort for on-mountain instruction with resort coaches, honing their skiing fundamentals and on-mountain etiquette.
A core principle of the program is teaching students how to balance athletics and academics. The academy's flexible curriculum ensures participants won't miss out on their core studies, as missed classes will be rescheduled. This approach aims to instill valuable time management skills from an early age.
This intensive program, a first of its kind for Big Sky, will initially be open to a small group of skiers. To keep parents connected, students will have GPS trackers to monitor progress, and daily video summaries will showcase their activities. The founding partners—the academy, Moving Mountains, and Big Sky Resort—view this pilot year as a foundation, with plans to adapt and potentially expand the program in the future to help create the next generation of lifelong skiers.
