About Melissa

"Melissa is a native Bozemanite, having had the opportunity to live in the Gallatin Valley her entire life. In 2000 she earned an Art History degree from Montana State University and spent that next decade working professionally in the marketing and advertising industry. In 2011, she was finally able to pick up the brush again and has not put it down. Melissa’s work primarily focuses on the landscapes of Montana and recently she started exploring still life.

 

Since 2013 her work has been part of the Bozeman art scene; participating in local juried art shows and Downtown Bozeman Art Walks. Her work has been on view at Emerson's Sidewall Pizza since 2020. Melissa is a member of Montana Contemporary Arts Collective and lives in Bozeman with her husband and two school-aged boys. When Melissa is not in the studio, you can find her teaching art grades K-5 at Morning Star Elementary as their  PAC Sponsored Art Enrichment Specialist."

"Over the years I have always returned to capturing the landscapes that surround my hometown --  its mountains, rivers, fields and always the big skies; with an emphasis on the interplay and movement between these elements.  I think of each piece as a view into my 'internal landscape,' and I welcome each viewer into these familiar yet wondrous places that we are so fortunate to call home." -Melissa Summerfield

Our Pledge

ERA Landmark has always approached hanging artists in our office a little differently - instead of taking a commission from art sales, we ask our artists to donate a small percentage towards a local charity or nonprofit near and dear to their hearts. Melissa has pledged to donate 10% of her art proceeds from any sales to Gallatin Valley Land Trust, who in turn "connects people, communities, and open lands through conservation of working farms and ranches, healthy rivers, and wildlife habitat, and the creation of trails in the Montana headwaters of the Missouri and Upper Yellowstone Rivers." To further help support Melissa's cause, ERA Landmark will be price matching a donation of up to $250 as well towards the same association.
