ERA Landmark is proud to announce that sales associate Marilyn Delger will be inducted into the Bozeman School District’s Hall of Honor. Delger, former principal at Hawthorne School, is receiving the “Momentous Service Award” for her continued service to the Bozeman Schools Foundation.
Excerpt from the Bozeman Daily Chronicle:
Delger retired in 2006 after working 41 years in the Bozeman schools as a teacher and as principal of Hawthorne School. Under her leadership, Hawthorne won honors as a model school for integrating the arts into teaching. Her efforts were honored by Harvard's graduate school of Education and the Kennedy Center. She won the Milkin Family Foundation National Educator Award and in 2005, the Governor's Award for the Arts.
“Every child has a gift or talent in some kind of artistic area – music, dance, visual arts, literary arts,” Delger said then. Teachers can see the results, she added. “Children become problem solvers, critical thinkers, they become confident in themselves, and each child can achieve their own identity.”
Delger grew up on a Helena Valley cattle ranch where her dad was the foreman and her mom the ranch cook. She helped cook, which in the early days meant using a wood stove and having no running water.
Since retiring, Delger served on the Bozeman Schools Foundation board, helped with the One Book One Bozeman and Links to Literacy projects, and started a career in real estate. She's working on a book about growing up on a ranch.
