"Bozeman is the perfect mix of ski town and metropolis; it's more affordable than Jackson Hole, less crowded than Salt Lake City, and more of a real town than Whistler."

Thus begins Powder magazine's glowing review in of Bozeman in its November cover story on the "Top 20 places to live to ski."

Bozeman, which "lays claim to three blue-ribbon trout waters" and three "distinctly different" ski resorts, ranked No. 1 on this year's list, giving credence to something ski bums across the valley have believed all along.

"Obviously there's no argument here," said Doug Wales, marketing director at Bridger Bowl. "We all know why Bozeman is a great town to live in."

A recent article published by The Wall Street Journal gives us a timely reminder that there’s truly no place like home. At the peak of the housing bubble just a few short years ago, the media was full of cheerleader stories and pointers on how to get rich from your home. Though we are certainly…

Learn More About Real Estate Transfer Taxes and Why They’re a Double Tax on Property

What is a Real Estate Transfer Tax?

  • Loss of Equity. Since a…

Helena, Mont., 4,058 feet above sea level near the Continental Divide, weathered much of the real estate storm.
Its status as the state capital and the Lewis and Clark County seat afforded some shelter.

The Helena metro area also was protected from a recent boom in home foreclosures because few purchases were financed with subprime and variable-rate mortgages.
