It seems readily apparent that Montana State University is a big player in the local economy, but not only does MSU affect Bozeman, but it also impacts the state as a whole.

Five local businesses and businesspeople were honored Thursday night at the nonprofit Prospera Business Network’s annual Business Excellence Awards.

Community companies and individuals were nominated for the awards by members of the Prospera network, said Stuart Leidner, executive director. Each nomination is looked into and the ones that most emulate each of the five categories are passed along to Prospera’s board, which chooses the winners.
