Check out these fabulous weekend events taking place in Southwest Montana from Friday, August 18th - Sunday, August 20th: ARTS Free Family Movie-The Little Mermaid-The Ellen Theatre-Fri at 7:00 pm. Ariel, a young mermaid princess, is dissatisfied with her life in the underwater kingdom of Atlantica. Her growing curiosities about the human world lead to exploration and adventure, with her friends Flounder the fish and Sebastian the Crab in tow. They encounter characters such as Scuttle the Seagull, Ursula the Sea Witch, and even humans themselves – all on a quest to answer the question, "Is the grass truly greener on the other side?" Brewery Follies-H. S. Gilbert Brewery-Fri-Sun at 4:00 pm & 8:00 pm. What is The Brewery Follies? It's an absurd, wacky, zany, fun-filled, contemporary comedy revue with music in a cabaret atmosphere that contains biting parody and naughty political/social satire. MISCELLANEOUS Cruisin on Main Car Show-Downtown Bozeman-Sun at 9:00 am. Since 2001, the Downtown Bozeman Association has hosted the "Cruisin on Main" Car Show in historic Downtown Bozeman.  It has become a premier, state-wide event celebrating classic cars, trucks & motorcycles.  Since 2011, we've partnered with Cancer Support Community (CSC) to raise awareness of the support offered to all people affected by cancer.  We're proud to report that together we've raised over $120,000!  The mission of CSC is to "ensure that all participants are empowered with knowledge, strengthened by action and sustained by community".  All the programs at CSC are offered free of charge and this community event helps make that possible! Family Matters: Bozeman's Historic African American Community-Beall Park Rec Center, 415 N. Bozeman-Fri at 10:00 am. The African American community in historic Bozeman is nearly invisible until you begin to examine the historic census records, newspaper accounts, and city directories. Only then do Bozeman's black citizens come into focus. One name leads to another and soon a tight knit and thriving African American community emerges during the late 19th century. Working as machinists, laborers, laundresses, housekeepers, and porters, Bozeman's Africa American people contributed to the building of our city through their labor, religious activity, child rearing, social clubs and community participation. Ghosts of Bozeman's Past: Historic Sunset Hills Cemetery-Sunset Hills Cemetery-Sun at 4:00 pm. Set atop a peaceful overlook, Bozeman's historic Sunset Hills Cemetery offers a panoramic view of downtown while each evening's sunset reflects the nature of its quiet inhabitants. The early residents of Bozeman laid their love ones to rest in this sanctified ground overlooking the town that their toil and labor helped establish. Bozeman's early movers and shakers rest here along with others whose stories make up the town's historical narrative. Here you will find the Story family plot where Bozeman's most notorious resident, Nelson Story is laid to rest alongside his family. John Bozeman, the man for whom the town is name is interred there as well and that's an interesting story . . . SPORTING EVENTS Gallatin Speedway Races-Gallatin Speedway, 2290 Tubb Rd, Belgrade-Fri at 7:35 pm. Gallatin Speedway was built in 1997 to replace the old Hub of the Valley Speedway which had been located near I-90 and was purchased by the State of Montana to put in a new interchange. Firehouse 5K-Gallatin County Regional-Sat at 9:00 am. The Bozeman Firefighters are pleased to announce our inaugural Firehouse 5K charity run!  The race course wraps around the scenic Gallatin County Regional Park on Bozeman's west side.  The race will start and finish in front of Bozeman Fire Station #3.  All racers will receive a custom t-shirt, gift bag and timing chip.  Schnees will award prizes to the overall top 3 men and women finishers.   Every racer will be entered in a raffle with a chance to win other great prizes! Run for the Roses 5k and Fun Run-Centennial Mall, MSU-Sat at 7:00 am. Join us for our 21st annual Run for the Roses fun run and 5k for charity! Over 50 million American have arthritis or related diseases, which includes over 300,000 children. The Arthritis Foundation is a leading non-profit who's ultimate goal is to find a cure for the disease that affects so many of our families, friends, and neighbors. Beyond just finding a cure, they help give families resources, access to care, and information to help individuals live a full and productive life. This year the Alpha Phi chapter of  Alpha Omicron Pi at Montana State University hopes to raise a record amount of money during out 21st Annual Run for the Roses.
