A more connected west Bozeman is taking shape. On September 15, the Bozeman City Commission adopted the Cattail Creek Corridor and Anchor Route Master Plan, setting a long-term vision for trails, parks and natural spaces through several west-side neighborhoods.
At the heart of the plan is an approximately 3.5-mile route connecting East Valley Center Road with the Gallatin Valley Mall area. It is part of the City’s broader goal to make walking and biking between neighborhoods and everyday destinations safer and more enjoyable. The plan also looks beyond the trail itself, identifying opportunities for recreation, more trees, native vegetation and improvements along the creek corridor.
For residents, the appeal is easy to picture: a place to walk the dog, take a bike ride or spend time outdoors closer to home. As the route develops, it could also make it easier to move between parks and neighborhoods without relying on a car for every short trip.
Approval is a milestone, but the full trail is still years away. The City expects to work with the West Winds HOA and nearby residents on details for that section next year. Revegetation and trail improvements near Greenway Park are also planned, and some improvements and wayfinding signs could appear as early as 2027. The City says 2030 is the earliest it expects the full route to be complete.
