There is a new MSU student housing project underway in south Bozeman! With Montana State University’s record breaking enrollment numbers every year, this is great news! Located across the street from The Arrow, the Boötes Apartments will offer more off-campus housing for students while providing the modern amenities of luxury living including a resort-style spa, grills and fire pits, fitness center, multiple club rooms, individual and group study rooms, outdoor gaming and a dog park. Turnrow

  • Location: Southwest corner of E Valley Center Rd and Davis Lane
  • Current Zoning: REMU (residential emphasis mixed-use)
  • Proposed Use: Mixed-use development with affordable housing component

The developer of Turnrow is partnering with the city to bring much-needed affordable housing to the area. Utilizing a $5 million American Rescue Plan grant, the city invested in sewage infrastructure. In exchange, the developer will dedicate 5 acres for 100 units of affordable housing.

Affordable Housing Developments in Bozeman, Montana

The Bozeman City Commission recently approved the 7th and Aspen development, a new project bringing much-needed affordable housing to Bozeman.

Here's the rundown:

  • Location: Corner of 7th Avenue and Aspen Street, including the Midtown Tavern building and surrounding properties.
  • Units: 96 units total, with income restrictions.
  • 17 units: Rented to those earning 50% of the area's median income.
  • 29 units: Rented to those earning 60% of the area's median income.
  • 50 units: Rented to those earning 80% of the area's median income.
  • Construction: The first two phases are approved and ready to move forward. Phase three, which would involve a taller building, needs further approval.

Big Sky's Big Sky Community Housing Trust (BSCHT) exists to help provide affordable and stable homes for residents living in Big Sky, Montana and it’s making strides in keeping the area affordable for local workers. Their "Good Deeds" program, launched in 2022, helps people buy homes by offering down payment assistance and placing deed restrictions on properties.

The program was so successful that it exhausted its budget halfway through its first year. Thankfully, a collaborative grant from Elevate Big Sky, totaling $1.39 million, is giving "Good Deeds" a major boost.
